One of the biggest days for Dingle, in fact for all of Ireland is March 17th. The Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations start early and last well into the wee hours.

Be sure to be well rested, as the festivities kick off practically before the sun is even up. Dingle’s Fife and Drum band begins of what is likely to be one of 2 parades around Dingle Town, so plan on getting a spot in time for the 6am beginning.

The Dingle Fife & Drum Band take to the streets at 6am in keeping with a long tradition which is usually supported by hundreds of enthusiastic followers.

The band marches from the Old Hospital, around the town bringing a magical start to the day. There is then a 6:30am stop at St. Mary's Church where Mass is offered by the local parish priest for the band who provide various tunes during the ceremony. The morning session finishes around 7:30am at Ashmount Terrace with national anthem Amhran na bhFiann.

Then the annual St. Patrick's Day parade usually starts at 12:45pm from Ashmount Terrace following the traditional route through the streets of Dingle, passing through Goat Street, Main Street, The Mall, Bridge Street, Strand Street, turning at the Quay and returning to the Old Hospital via Green Street and Goat Street.

By mid-afternoon the carousing begins and the pubs start to serve plenty of strong Irish beer.

Being close to the water Dingle is also home to several regattas throughout of the summer months, and these take place on weekends throughout the spring and summer beginning in May and continuing to September. It is a great chance to see the proud maritime traditions of Southwest Ireland.

 New Year's in Dingle is a special night. A stellar display of fireworks is held at the pier at 10pm. Dingle Fife & Drum then march around town from Flaherty's Bar to the Bridge where a projected countdown clock helps count in the New Year. The Band then march around town and finish at the Bridge. New Year's in Dingle can't be missed, the atmosphere is not to be missed.
