Rás Mumhan is one of the premier cycling events in Ireland, Run by Killorglin Credit Union Cycling Club, it takes place in Cork and Kerry over the Easter weekend.
With Killorglin as its base, it passes through some of the most stunning scenery in Kerry and from the cyclists’ point of view, some of the most demanding terrain.
It provides exciting and demanding racing that is typical of Rás Mumhan. As ever route design is guided by the notion that there is a nice little leg warmer on Friday followed by a tough long day in the mountains on Saturday.
Sunday will be run over the classic South Kerry stage with its interesting little drags and the final day is a flat very fast stage.
The Kerry Group Rás Mumhan is renowned as one of the top cycle races on the Irish domestic calendar. Etape Ras Mumhan gives the sportive rider the rare opportunity to ride a classic stage of this great race.
Signage: Every entrant will be issued with a map on the morning at sign-on. The route will also be signposted at the main junctions and there will be motorcycle marshalls on the route. Ambulance cover: This will be provided by the Red Cross with ambulances positioned along the route. Broom wagon: this will travel approximately 10minutes behind the group.
Neutral service: while neutral service is available it is compulsory that everyone carry a spare tube, a pump and basic tools of their own. Bring the necessary equipment that you would take on a long training spin.
Due to the length of the course and the time gap between cyclists there will be no guarantee of neutral service getting to you on time. There will be a pump and some basic tools at each food/hydration stop. Hydration/food stops: there will be a food/hydration stop at Anagar bridge which is at approximately 25miles on the way out and at 55miles on the way back. At these stops there will be water, sandwiches, chocolate, brack and bananas.
