Calling all cyclists, dust down the bikes as the Jimmy Duffy Memorial Cycle takes place Saturday at 11:00am from St. Pat's GAA Club, Blennerville.
The Jimmy Duffy Memorial Cycle is a nice relaxed and well organised spin out to Castleisland and back. So dust down the bikes clear your head take a healthy spin out and home followed by deserved refreshments, tea and coffee in the Windmill Bar Blennerville.
See you there. This is a fun cycle led by a pace car. The celebrations will continue on Saturday night with a Mass in Curraheen, a music session in Quanes Bar where hot food & refreshments will be served. Keep the date free & come out to celebrate the memory of Jimmy Duffy. All are welcome.
The annual cycle is in memory of Jimmy Duffy, who lived in Blennerville all his life and was a fine musician and avid cyclist.
He was 67 years old when he died as a result of smoke inhalation after fire at his home on Church Street, Blennerville, in January 2010.
THE Blennerville community will be out in force to remember a much loved local character who lost his life in tragic circumstances five years ago.
Jimmy Duffy, who was a well known and much loved figure all over Kerry and especially in his native Blennerville, lost his life when his home on Church Street caught fire in January 2010 and he succumbed to smoke inhalation.
Aged 67 when he died Jimmy was well known for his love of cycling and could often be found cycling the highways and byways of north and south Kerry.
This Saturday morning a cyclists will gather in Blennerville for the annual Jimmy Duffy Memorial Cycle which began the year after Jimmy died and has gown to become a very popular event attracting some 150 cyclists last year.
The Cycle begins at 11am at St Pat's GAA Club and will take participants to Castleisland and then back to Qaunes Bar in Blennerville for refreshments and entertainment.
On Saturday night there will be an anniversary Mass for Jimmy at Curraheen Church at 8pm.
After that the community will celebrate Jimmy's other great love, music, with a session in Quane's Bar.
