Friday 17th – Sunday 19th February 2017
Dingle - Daingean Uí Chúis once described as The Most Beautiful Place on Earth. Féile Siúilióid Chorca Dhuibhne, Dingle Walking Festival offers you the opportunity to experience and enjoy the beauty of this area on foot. A day In Dingle is as good as a week in heaven!
This natural paradise, a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) area by heritage, is lauded the world over for its immense landscapes and breathtaking scenery. Is í an Ghaeilge teanga cuid mhaith den phobal áitiúil agus beidh fonn orainn í a labhairt leat.
From mountainous terrains, to exquisite valleys, framed by vast coastal expanses with the Atlantic ocean lapping at its feet, the Dingle Peninsula (or Corca Dhuibhne as it is know ‘as Gaeilge’) . As a consequence it is one of the premier walking destinations in the world.
This shall present walking enthusiasts of all ages and levels the opportunity to experience this geological jewel first hand for themselves.
Dingle is known the world over for many reasons.
David Lean’s Oscar winning masterpiece Ryan’s Daughter was filmed here – just one of many big screen productions which has featured this spectacular peninsula (Far and Away, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman being another).
One of its most famous residents is Fungie the Dolphin who celebrates his 31th year in Dingle Harbour this year.
The music series Other Voices is filmed in Dingle every December (this has attracted the likes of Amy Winehouse, The National, Glen Hansard, Jarvis Cocker and Snow Patrol to name but a few).
Dingle’s streets are home to wonderful pubs and restaurants and it is one of Europe’s top holiday destinations.
However its natural scenery is its greatest asset and the 2014 Dingle Walking Festival aims to showcase this in all its magnificent splendour.

Ceol Chorca Dhuibhne
Tá a stíleanna agus a gcuid nósmhaireachtaí ceoil féin in alán ceanntair éagsúla ar fuaid na h-Éireann agus sé an dála céanna aige Corca Dhuibhne é.
An chéad rud a bhí le tabhairt fé ndeara i seisiún ceoil san áit seo go dtí le ana dhéanaí, ná go raibh trí tréithe ag baint le h-oíche mhaith ceoil. Ar dtúis bhíodh ceol a sheimint, ansan an rínce agus ina dhiaidh san bhí an amhránaíocht. Gan amhras bhíodh tarraingt ar chaint istigh eatartha agus do’b shin í an Ghaeilge san chuid is mó den gceanntar. Fiú go dtí an lá atá inniu ann, sé seo an saghas oíche is fearr a thaithníonn leis an ngnáth dhuine sa taobh seo tíre.
Sé an bosca ceóil is líonmhaire san áit le fada agus roimis sin, bhí alán veidhlíní agus roimis sin aríst, bhí na píob uilinn.
Toisc airgead a bheith gann agus gan ar chumas alán daoine uirlisi ceoil a cheannach, is ceoltóir amháin nó uirlis amháin ceoil a bhíodh á sheimint aige’s na h-oícheanta ceoil seo. Dá bharra san, bhí a stíl pearsanta fhéin aige’s na h-aon cheoltóir agus alán den am, píosai ceoil seachas a chéile aitheanta leis na ceóltóiri sin.
Bhí an ceol i gconaí dírithe ar an rince, rud a d’fhág meidhreach i gcónaí é. Bhíodh foinn mhalla, corn phíopa, polcaí, sleamhnáin, poirt, rince scoibóil agus bhálsanna á sheimint. Ní mór na ríleanna a bhí le clos.
Siad na ceóltóiri a bhí ag seimint go rialta timpeall leath chéad bliain ó shin ná, Seán Coughlin, Moss Martin, Muiris Ó Dálaigh agus a dhriotháir, Muiris Ó Cuínn, John O’Donnell, Seán Dan Neill Ó Gairbhí, Páid Ó Gairbhí, Stanley Doyle, Seáinin Mhicil Ó Suilleabháin, Tom agus Pat Coughlin, Muintir Ui Fhlaithearta sa Daingean, agus driotháracha agus driofúracha mhuintir Bheaglaoí ó Bhaile na bPoc agus Baile Na nGall.
Is beag duine ná go raibh amhrán aige mar ní raibh an bhéim ar fad ar an nguth ach ar an scéal. “Abair amhrán” a deirtaí.
Tá alán ceoltóirí, amhránaithe agus rinceóirí óga san áit anois agus le cabhair an Scoil Ceóil seo agus imeachtaí ná é, sínfear an oidhreacht seo ar aghaidh go dtí an gcéad ghlúin leis, gan aon dua.

Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé
Saturday 20th – Monday 22nd February 2017
28 YEARS CELEBRATING
THE SPORTING LIFE OF PÁIDÍ Ó SÉ
The Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé 2017 is an invitational Ladies and Men’s GAA football tournament which will take place from 20th - 22nd February all over the Dingle Peninsula in West Kerry on the south west coast of Ireland.
Now in its 28th year, the Comórtas is a major international Gaelic games gathering and has expanded this year to include 48 senior, intermediate and junior GAA clubs from 12 counties in Ireland but also teams from England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, France, Spain, USA and Brussels.
The tournament is the brainchild of the legendary Páidi Ó Sé, a GAA legendary winner of eight time All-Ireland senior medals as a player and two as a manager, who passed away suddenly in December, 2012
The tournament will attract over 1,300 participants with over 40 adult men’s and ladies club teams descending on the rugged Dingle Peninsula to the West Kerry region and is also supported by Lee Strand Co-Operative, national radio station Newstalk 106-108FM, and Fáilte Ireland.
Pádraig Óg. Ó Sé said, ‘The Comórtas has grown beyond our Dad’s wildest dreams. We are delighted it continues to attract clubs from all over the world. It sends a positive message to young people about the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
This event, along with Fundúireacht Páidí Ó Sé, a charitable foundation that we set up after his passing to help provide Cardiac related services in Kerry and nationally, are positive legacies he would have been proud of. We are also flattered that a local committee has been set up to perpetuate his memory in the form of a monument for his contribution to Irish life.”
Monument to Páidí
A committee has recently been formed to perpetuate the memory of the late Páidí O Sé; footballer supreme, and a man who achieved extraordinary things for his county, his parish and the country at large – both on and off the football field – in a comparatively short life
Páidí will be remembered by the creation of a life-size bronze monument which will be erected outside his home in Ard A Bhóthair as a reminder of his contribution to Irish society. The aim is to officially unveil the monument on 16th May, 2015, on what would have been Páidí’s 60th birthday, The committee is working with friends of Páidí from the corporate sector to contribute towards the cost of this undertaking.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny is due to officially launch the Comórtas, which was established 26 years ago by the late, great Páidí. The Comortas will take place in Corca Dhuibhne from February 20 - 22 and over 1,300 footballers and supporters are expected to participate.
Thirty six men's and ladies club teams are travelling for the event which is this year supported by PhoneWatch, Opel Ireland, Lee Strand Milk, Fáilte Ireland, Kerry County Council and Newstalk 106-108FM. Among the participants are teams from the UK, Madrid and Brussels.
This year the Irish Defence Forces Senior Gaelic Football Team are expected to launch a serious offensive on the men's cup in the competition, which is especially appropriate given that the men's cup is actually named after the former Defence Forces Chief of Staff and star footballer, the late Dermot Earley.
"We are delighted the Comórtas continues to attract clubs from all over the world," said Pádraig Óg Ó Sé who unveiled details of #Comórtas2015 in Gallarus last Sunday morning, along with his cousin Marc and sister Siún.
"We welcome the Defence Forces this year including Captain Dermot Earley Junior, son to the legendary Dermot who was a great friend of my Dad," he added.
The annual photography exhibition in Árd a'Bhóthair, which is an annual fixture during the festival, will this year feature the work of award winning Kerry photographer Julian Behal from Maxwell's Photography agency. His exhibition, 'My Photographic Highlights' will be launched at 5:30pm on Sunday February 22 in Páidí's pub at Árd a'Bhóthair and will remain on display for two months.
